On The Fence

You’ve taken up residence
On the fence,
While I anxiously waited
On one side.
You think of everything
In the past tense.
But exist with me
In real time.

It is hard to overlook
Lush pastures
But looking past you prevents
Disaster.
Tragic, how your perspective
Once held hope.
But now your view from up there
Is shattered.

We could never call
The same place “home.”
My soles, too broken
Your his’ry, overgrown.

I tried to mend them
Your pickets, your posts.
But I can’t outlast him,
His ambit, his ghost.

As you weigh the pros & balance
On the beams,
The greatest cons pull you down &
Out of the dream.
If your heirloom Libra scale is
Unforgiving,
Then please spare me the plunge &
Release me.

Because indecision &
Uncertainty
Don’t make for stalwart
Foundations.
They spell the death of
Opportunity,
And inspire amorous
Indignation.

I just hope someday,
You’ll hop off that fence.
Step down from your guilt,
Give the good a chance.

I’ll let the jew’ls on my hand,
Champion my name.
I deserve decision.
You deserve the same.
